City Jewel Box

When a sophisticated bachelorette had the inspiration to design her jewel box of a home in the big city, she knew exactly who to call - none other than Vanessa Ferro. This accomplished and busy executive spent many years living in Europe and knew she wanted her home to evoke both the enchantment of France and the quaintness of a cozy English cottage.

The space was small but the scope was large. Vanessa was called in to transform the attic from an unusable room to a magnificent primary suite. During demolition the original floorboards, dating back to the early 1900s, were unveiled, intact beneath the layers of laminate flooring from previous renovations.

In order to infuse the space with further vintage charm, Vanessa installed beadboard millwork and a Louis XIV headboard adorned with custom upholstery in sumptuous velvet. She designed custom draperies along with an upholstered dressing table and stool. Antique dressers, lovingly refinished for contemporary use, tell tales of a bygone era, along with the chandelier studded with tiny porcelain rosettes.

The bathroom was fully renovated and given new life - incorporating whimsical wallcovering and soothing green hues. Where the previous bathroom lacked form and function, the new spa-like space serves as a tranquil respite from the world outside.
